Tourism Product and Services Development Specialist Rwanda
Emerging Markets Group (EMG) seeks a local Rwandan candidate for the position of Tourism Product and Services Development Specialist on an anticipated USAID-funded project in Rwanda. The project “Strengthening sustainable ecotourism in and around the Nyungwe National Park” will sustainably accelerate rural economic growth while contributing to the biodiversity conservation in and around Nyungwe Forest National Park. This program will integrate sustainable ecotourism and public health activities.
The Specialist will be required to perform the following tasks:
- Work with local businesses to achieve strong support
- Identify ways to increase rural incomes based on products that rely on sustainable management of Nyungwe National Park (NNP), including community eco-lodges, beekeeping, handicrafts, cultural tourism, and community guides
- Foster private sector partnerships (joint ventures, land renting, services to private tour operators) on ecotourism opportunities
- Form joint ventures with private tour operators where the community provides most services, while the private sector partner manages marketing, logistics and management
Qualifications:
Advanced degree in relevant field preferred
7+ years of experience in the tourism /ecoutourism industry in Rwanda with focus on product/service development in high biodiversity areas
Knowledge and familiarity with the Nyungwe National Park
Fluency in English required

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE 3RD CIVIC EDUCATION
WORKSHOP FOR RWANDAN YOUTH STUDYING ABROAD
- 1. Organization
The National Unity and Reconciliation Commission (NURC) and the Student Financing Agency for Rwanda (SFAR) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MINEDUC) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (Directorate of Diaspora) have organized the 3rd Civic Education Workshop for Rwandan youth studying abroad, with the theme “The combined role of Government and Parents in preparing Rwandan Youth studying abroad for their role in National Development”.
- 2. Background to the Civic Education Workshop
This program was initiated by His Excellency Paul KAGAME The President of the Republic of Rwanda in July 2008. The 1st Civic Education Workshop took place in July 2008 and was attended by 115 participants and the 2nd took place in December 2008 with 70 participants. The 3rd Civic Education Workshop is expected to take place in July 2009 with over 250 participants.
The aim of the Civic Education Workshop is to sensitize the Youth in the Diaspora about their role as young Rwandans in the Development of their Country. The courses include lectures by various competent key persons in Government Ministries and Institutions and also from outside Government, sports and recreation, basic Para-military drills, excursions to various sites around the country, open class discussions, entertainment, etc.
- 3. Objective of the Civic Education Workshop
- The main objective is to appraise the National consciousness of the Rwandan Youth studying abroad on the country’s current issues, challenges and the future plans in order to keep them updated of their potential role and participation in the building of the country upon completion of their studies.
- To empower them to be good Ambassadors of their country in the various communities where they are studying and living.
- To bring together and to create a forum for students studying in the same counties.
- To create a forum where students, parents and the Government come together to discuss their combined role in the bringing up and the education and upbringing of the Rwandan children.
- To discuss with the students on the various problems they are facing during their stay and studies abroad.
- 4. Who is eligible to register for the Civic Education Workshop?
- Undergraduate (Bachelors’ degree) students currently studying in any country outside Rwanda.
- High School (senior six) leavers who are scheduled to start their undergraduate programs in 2009 in any country outside Rwanda.
- 5. Venue and date of the Civic Education Workshop
The Civic Education Workshop will be held from the 15 to 31 July 2009 at the RMA-Gako, in Bugesera District. The costs of transportation from Kigali to the Workshop venue, accommodation, meals, and medical costs will be met by the organizers of the workshop.
- 6. How to register for the Civic Education Workshop

The best candidates will be awarded with Certificates of recognition and all participating students will receive certificates of attendance.
